Fiction

Voyage, a young adult literary journal, published Ashley’s short story “Jericho,” a story about grief and an unexpected beagle, on August 17, 2022.

The Messenger literary magazine published the flash fiction piece “Run Like Water, Burn Like the Sun” in their spring 2015 print issue.

After the Pause literary journal published Ashley’s flash fiction piece, “Revenge,” in their winter 2014 inaugural issue on pages 67-68.

Another flash fiction piece, “Purple Rain,” is included in the Juniper Tree Anthology.

The flash fiction piece “Hold Me Under,” inspired by the Band of Horses song “The Funeral,” has been published in the inaugural issue of Second Star Magazine.

InkStain Press has published three of Ashley’s flash fiction pieces in their inaugural issue–“Violated Silence” (inspired by “Say Something” by A Great Big World), “Tree of Memories” (inspired by “Bloom” by The Paper Kites), and “The Natural, the Essence of Things.”

Cloud Streak Press has published the short story “A Year of Holding On,” inspired by the song “Swing Life Away” by Rise Against, in their inaugural issue.

Terrene has published the flash fiction piece “Hawk-Girl” in the magazine’s inaugural issue.

Non-Fiction

Alex on the Map published Ashley’s article “20 Amazing Things to Do in the Red River Gorge You Have to Check Out” about local RRG businesses and sustainable recreation on August 22, 2022.

Forum Magazine published the articles “A Walk on the Wild Side,” about hidden wilderness parks in Richmond, Virginia; “Rock Climbing: A Hidden Culture,” about the unique and often overlooked climbing community; “Rocks, Ropes, and Ravioli: A California Adventure,” on a summer experience climbing out west; and “Hiking to Humpback Rock,” a review of a short hike in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Her articles “Spiders with Cool Jobs” (co-written with Rachel Bringewatt) and “Summer Adventures in Richmond” appeared In the Forum‘s summer 2015 print issue, and her feature article “Out of Eden” is included in Forum‘s spring 2016 issue.

The rock climbing blog Climb On, Sister! has published three of Ashley’s short works, two nonfiction articles and one poem.

“Ode to Climbing”: A poem about Ashley’s experiences rock climbing and the significance of the sport to her and the rest of the climbing community.

Sending Sisters Profile “Climbing: The Joy of Discovery”: An article about Ashley’s climbing journey and her perspective on the sport.

“Pump Prevention”: A rock climbing training article about how to effectively “fight the pump.”

Peak Experiences Indoor Rock Climbing Center also posted Ashley’s article about her experiences rock climbing with her mom on their blog Peak to Peak.

Ashley also posted about rock climbing throughout her teenage years on her personal blog, A Climber’s Journey.
